One Breath at a Time

Hello everyone

We read up to pg 164 Why Work With Pain so we will resume there next week. This week we talked about the quality of Investigation, and how it is different from rumination, and how "Boredom is the lack of attention" p`159 and how it takes action to change anything. We also talked about sitting with pain.

So the discussion question for this week is how has investigation served your recovery? And how aware are you of the difference between investigation and rumination?

I know for me, investigation is more of a general awareness and mindfulness of what is occurring and passing through my body or mind. It is about not engaging with the thoughts, but noticing them, like, "how interesting". This level of curiosity and attention helps keep me in the moment without taking me down the rabbit hole of the what if's and if only's. It never ceases to amaze me how the same thought patterns show up again and again in my meditations as well as on my bike rides. Once again, I try to greet them with an attitude of curiosity rather than trying to stop them or shame myself for having them. But it's definitely a work in progress.

What about you?

Hi Lori and thank you for the question. I feel like boredom led me down the road of investigation. I was curious of what life could be in a new area and followed my intuition to where I am today. I am grateful for each feeling I get to have that leads me on the path that I am currently following. Intuition is a big part of investigationas well as curiosity.
