I know I know, really annoying when you're upset and someone tells you to breathe. But the bottom line is the benefits of proper breathing are well worth the time it takes to learn and understand how to do it.

"Pranayama is the conscious awareness of breath: the life force that energizes and relaxes the body. The term is derived from the Sanskrit, prana, meaning "life force," and ayama, meaning "extension." Pranayama is an integral part of yoga. The controlled breathing enables both the rhythm of performing yoga poses and relaxing the mind for meditation." ~ Yogapedia

There are many types of breathing in a yoga practice, and they all serve different purposes. If you attend Yoga4Sobriety classes, you know we begin class with belling breathing and surrender breaths. In some classes, we may take it further, getting into deeper breathing practices like the 4-4-8 breath or alternate nostril breathing.
