Communication

How do you find yourself communicating differently in recovery?

For me, my language is softer and I tend to slow down more when communicating with someone unless I'm agitated, then it's all over the place. Definitely a work in progress!

I found that difficult communication is also harder for me. I've learned to practice what I need to say with people I trust. I also will write it down first and then read it out loud to see if I'm gathering my thoughts effectively so I can get my point across.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Comment below!

For me, communication is more about listening to respond rather than to react. I try to pause and think before I speak. I allow the person I am communicating with to be aware that we can both be wrong and right. We can see things differently and agree to disagree. I am also working on understanding that we all live differently, think differently and have had different experiences. Letting people be who they are, offering my experience and suggestions, and leading by example. I have worked on leaving words out like SHOULD and BUT. Always a work in progress, and it's a continuous practice for me. Thanks for the topic.
